Windell Brown, Sr. Obituary

Windell Ray Brown, Sr., of Winston‑Salem, North Carolina, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Born on June 27, 1949, in Winston‑Salem to the late Robert and Ella Mae Brown, Windell grew up with strong values, a gentle spirit, and a quiet strength that shaped the way he lived and cared for others.

He was educated in the Winston‑Salem/Forsyth County Schools and went on to build a long, dedicated career with RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company and the UNC College System, where he worked faithfully as a custodian until his retirement. Windell took pride in his work and was known for his reliability, humility, and steady presence.

A true sports enthusiast, Windell enjoyed cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, but his greatest joy came from watching his beloved Atlanta Braves. Whether it was a big game or a regular season matchup, he found comfort and excitement in following his teams. He also loved good home‑cooked meals and the simple pleasures of life. Those who knew him best remember him as a quiet, meek, and humble man—one who loved deeply, gave generously, and cherished his family above all else.

Windell was preceded in death by his parents.

He leaves to honor and cherish his memory his children: Angela Jenkins, Windell (Shannon) Brown, Jr., and Michael J. Brown; his grandchildren Kaneisha, Dameisha, Jada, Jaylen, Jasean, and Ian; his siblings Robert Lee Brown, Jr., Shirley Hamilton, Cynthia (Glenn) Williams, and Syreda Brown; his devoted friend Nellie Autery; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever remember his gentle heart and steady kindness.
