Roberta S (Stevenson) Myers

Mrs. Roberta Marie Shell Myers, aka “Granny,” 82, was born on June 19, 1938 to Reverend Spurgeon Stevens and Lucille McCleary.  She was raised by her grandparents.

Granny attended Carver High School.  She became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at the former Pell Care Nursing Care in Winston-Salem, NC. She later married Rossie Shell, Sr. and from their union brought David, Keith, Crawford, Michael, Cynthia, Barbara, and Reginald Shell. 

Roberta joined Emmanuel Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. John Mendez.  She later married Roosevelt Myers, Jr. on October 4, 1989.  The two would travel to many different places to vacation, fish, and attend Masonic events.  It made her feel like she relived her childhood days.  After the passing of her husband in 1999, she became more active in the church.  She joined the Single’s Ministry, Adult Sunday School Ministry, and EBC Spiritual Choir.  

Granny also enjoyed being with family and friends when she was not at church. She was the life of the party. Many times, you would catch her playing spades with family and friends, such as Roberta Surles and Esther Boulware (both deceased).  Anytime you saw one you would see the three of them. Even when her health began to decline, she still found joy in watching her sports channels, Young and the Restless, Gaither Gospel Hour, listening to gospel music and old favorites, and many other activities to keep her active.

On Monday, January 11, 2021, she heard the voice of Jesus say, ‘Come unto me and rest; lay down, thou weary one, lay down thy head upon my breast.’ She came to Jesus as she was, so weary, worn and sad. She has found in him a resting place and her heart is filled with gladness. 

Roberta was preceded in death by her parents; children Reginald “Reggie” Shell, Rossie David Shell, Jr., and Crawford Dean Shell;  her husbands, Rossie Shell, Sr.,  Roosevelt Myers; and grandparents.

She leaves to cherish most dear and precious memories her two sons, Michael Shell and Keith Shell; two daughters, Barbara Shell and Cynthia Shell; two grandsons, Damien Shell and Rossie Shell, III;  two granddaughters, Alvinia (Chad) Scales and LaTosha (Shawn) Wilson; great-grandchildren, Chaelin Scales, Tayvion Shell, Asia Shell,  Sariyah Wilson, and Shawn Wilson; special friends, Janie “2 Cent” O’Neil, Janie Floyd, Oak Haven Apartments Community, Emmanuel Baptist Church family, Russell Funeral Home Staff and a host of cousins, and friends.
