Reginald Bates, Sr. Obituary

Reginald Carl Bates, Sr., a cherished family member and friend, departed this life at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center on December 7, 2024. Reginald was born on September 13, 1960, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Joseph Allen and Mary Bates. He was a graduate of Bushwick High School, where he began to mark his path and pave his way in hard work and camaraderie.

In search of new opportunities and serving his community, Reginald moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he dedicated many years of his life working for the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System as a custodian.

An avid sports fan, Reginald was passionately devoted to his favorite teams: the Dallas Cowboys, New York Knicks, and New York Yankees.A firm believer in his skills, he frequently boasted about his prowess as a three-point shooter on the basketball court, where friends fondly remembered his playful competitive spirit. He also loved watching wrestling and other sports.

Reginald’s love for family and friends was truly at the core of his being. He took joy in simple pleasures, relishing the moments spent sipping a cold Pepsi and immersing himself in his favorite music, often taking his family back to the sounds of the Isley Brother, Earth Wind and Fire, Fred Hammond and many other artists. Most importantly he loved the Lord having a strong Christian faith. Before moving to North Carolina he was a member at his home church Mount Horeb Holiness Church in Bronx, NY where he was a trustee and played the drums. After relocating to North Carolina he was a member of Community Deliverance in High Point, NC.

Reginald leaves behind a loving legacy, including children: Reginald, Jr., Royale, Rashad, Jenelle, and Janay Bates; grandchildren Johnnae Sturdivant, Co’Mauriey, Cy’ree Harvey, Journiee Harvey, Amare Bates and Aylani Bates; siblings Ronald (Karen) Bates, Robert (Tonya) Allen and Shelia (Jeff) AllenWilson, Jacqueline Moses, Gwendolyn Jenkins, Willette (Joey) Peoples, Melvin (Star) Charley, Al (Constance) Alston and Scotty Dumas; nieces, Robin, Felicia, Faye and Jamiera; nephews Jattir, Jaramiah, Jauan, Aaron and Micah; and a host of cousins and friends.
