Mamie Lee Westberry Goodwin, 90, of 5555 Stone Crossing Dr, was born on September 1, 1931 in Orangeburg, SC to Herbert and Mary Lee Westberry. She was the second of seven children.
She was a graduate of the local Orangeburg County Schools. While finishing her education at the age of 15 she married the love of her life, Luther James Goodwin in 1947. After finishing her education, they moved to Winston-Salem to begin a new Journey. From this union came six beautiful children. Together they instilled in their children many things but most of all the power of knowing the Lord and building the foundation on how to live a life that would honor God. “Gem” as she was affectionately called loved the lord and stood on his word that carried her each day as she began with a prayer and song. She was a member of Union Bethel AME Church before moving her membership to Christ Kingdom Building Worship Center. Her love for Christ drew thousands and allowed her to touch and serve the lives of adults, administration, students and youth in many ways.
Throughout her life she held many different careers including working for Reynolds and National Linen. In her career choices she had a stronger passion in being an entrepreneur. Her and her husband decided to open a restaurant called the Luncheonette in downtown Winston-Salem. Together they operated for 40 years. After closing she continued her entrepreneurial skills by being a hairstylist after graduating from LaMae Beauty College. While still pursuing her gifts and talents she still wanted to give back by becoming an educator/cook in the WS/FCS Career Center, where she retired.
After retirement she continued her work on her entrepreneurial gifts. Mamie enjoyed cooking and especially baking special desserts for the children and grandchildren. She loved being around people and encouraging them. Anytime there was a problem she always knew God could solve them by going to the bible and giving you a Word. In her spare time, she loved gardening, traveling, and playing the piano.
On the evening of Monday January 10, 2022, God dispatched his angels to carry Mamie Lee Westberry Goodwin to her new heavenly home.
