Joseph Franklin Ashe, Sr. was born on October 22, 1958 in Riverhead, NY to Floyd C. Ashe and Thelma Jennings. After graduating from Hialeah High School in Miami, Florida, he attended Winston-Salem State University where he played the position of linebacker on the Rams football team. Joe was inducted into the WSSU Hall of Fame. Upon graduating from MTA Trucker School, Joe worked for National Freight Inc. for 35 years.
In 2019, NFI honored Joe with a banquet for their “HAUL” Of Fame
for driving 2.5 million miles without any accident.
Outside of his work, he was known to family and friends as a hard worker. Joe loved to travel, spend time with his family, and yard care. He was an avid football fan and played board games such as Chess and Madden. Joe would always donate his time by donating school supplies and delivering toys to Fox 8 from Kat & Brownie Toy Drive.
Joseph Franklin Ashe, Sr., 65, departed this life on September 11, 2023, in Philadelphia, PA. He was preceded in death by his mother who passed away on September 9, 2023; his father; his siblings, Kenneth, John, and Gabrielle Ashe.
Left to cherish many loving and dear memories are his loving wife, Joy Joyner Ashe; a son, Joseph (Janet) Ashe, Jr.; nieces, Chante (Melvin) Fenwick, Kendra (Kelvin) Brown; nephews, John, II, Anwar (Janel) Powell; uncle, Freddie (Harriet) Moore; aunt, Ethel Gilmore; great niece, Kelani Brown; two former sisters-in-law, Burke and Katrina Powell; and a host of family and friends.
