Mr. James Henry Smith, 43, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, departed this earthly life on May 26, 2026, and entered into eternal rest with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His family finds comfort in the promise of everlasting life through Christ.
James was born on December 3, 1982, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to Mary Jones. He attended Parkland High School and later earned his GED while attending Job Corps. Driven by a desire to serve his country, he enlisted in the United States Army. He continued his education at Winston-Salem State University, where he studied Music Business, and later attended Alamance Community College, where he studied Advertising and Graphic Design.
A gifted creative spirit, James was passionate about music, graphic design, and technology. Under the name “Duece DoubleUp the Producer,” he created and produced music for others, helping aspiring artists bring their visions to life. Through his graphic design work, he created visual artwork under the name “Sub Siblingz.” James possessed a remarkable ability to teach himself virtually anything that captured his interest. Whether working with music, computers, design software, or new technology, he approached every challenge with curiosity, determination, and talent.
James was known for his generous heart and willingness to help others. Family and friends could always count on him to lend a hand, share his knowledge, or offer support whenever needed. His kindness, creativity, and quiet strength touched many lives and will be remembered by all who knew him.
James was preceded in death by his father, James Smith; his mother, Mary Jones Noble; his brother, Edmund L. Jones; his loving grandmother, Martha E. Jones; his grandfather, George W. Jones II; and his devoted grandmother, Wilhelmina C. Bowling, his aunt, Queen Esther McIntosh Cooper
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved daughters, Alyanna Smith and Gabriella Smith of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; his loving sister, Anjonette Harrington of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; his cherished children by love, Isabella Rivera and Jairon Rivera of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and Elena Rivera of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, mother of his children.
He is also survived by his aunts, Hazel Moore and Rosetta Foster of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; his uncle, George (Cindy) Jones of Vienna, Virginia; his nieces, April Jones, Tamera Jones, Imani Jones, and Denita Wade, all of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; his nephews, Edmund Newman, Terrell Jones, and Domanique Jones of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Camron Wade of Greenville, North Carolina; his sister-in-law, April Jones of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, widow of his late brother, Edmund L. Jones; his cousins, Dedrick Jones of Concord, North Carolina, Simone Foster and Walter Foster of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Nicole (Scott) Mills of Vienna, Virginia, and Roneshia Jones of Atlanta, Georgia.
