June 16, 1937 – November 1, 2025
Helena Wray Covington Bailey, beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend was born on June 16, 1937, to Henry and Geneva Covington. Helena was a lifelong resident whose warmth and generosity touched countless lives. She dedicated her career to clerical work across various administrative and food service industries, always bringing diligence and grace to every role.
Over 60 years ago, Helena was spiritually led to join Ephesus Seventh Day Adventist Church after attending a tent revival. Her faith became the cornerstone of her life. She served faithfully as an usher and was deeply involved in numerous ministries, including the Usher Board, Bible Study, Village Support, Church Pageant at the church school, Disability Committee, Senior Committee, and Women’s Ministry. Her unwavering commitment was recently honored with the Ephesus Seventh Day Adventist Rose Committee Award.
Helena found joy in the simple pleasures of life—thrift store shopping, cooking, and spending cherished time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Known for her vibrant personality and love for people, she was a beacon of kindness and connection in her community.
Helena Wray Covington Bailey passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William Ernest Bailey, and her sons Vernon Bailey and Tony Bailey.
Helena leaves behind a loving legacy through her children: William (April) Bailey, Sr., James (Shelia) Bailey, Vonetta Lowery, Thurmond Bailey, Gloria Bailey, and Tonya Bailey; her sister Gwendolyn Covington; devoted nieces Chandra Sherrill and Beverly King; a devoted friend Hazel Robertson and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Her life was a testament to faith, family, and service. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
