Eugene Wilson Kirk

Eugene Wilson Kirk dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away at the age of 91 in his sleep in Kernersville, NC on Wednesday December, 14 2022.

Eugene was born to Clay and Margert Kirk in Aberdeen, NC on August 28, 1931. He graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1948 before attending North Carolina State University. Eugene graduated with a Mechanical Engineering Degree from North Carolina State University in 1954.

Gene met his wife Ann in his sophomore year at North Carolina State University. Gene & Ann were married on June 26, 1954. He worked at a plant in Sanford, NC for about 8 months before moving to Roanoke, VA to build his 42-year career with General Electric as a Mechanical Engineer in their Motor Control Division. Gene closed out his career with General Electric in the Mebane, NC plant.

After 2 years of marriage Gene and Ann’s first child was born Richard Marlowe Kirk November 12, 1956. On August 26, 1958 their daughter was born Joyce Ann Carswell. On November 18, 1960 Eugene Odom Kirk was born their 3rd and final child.

Gene’s most favorite thing to do was spending time with his family and doing family activities on the family farm in Roanoke VA. He really enjoyed flying model aircraft launching rockets high into the sky, on the hot summer days he liked to play croquet, softball on the family farm. Gene always made time for family vacations loading us all up in the station wagon. We cannot forget the 2-hour hikes to the Blue Ridge Parkway from the family farm.

In retirement Gene did not slow down he set up a full wood working shop in their basement in Chapel Hill, NC and built beautiful furniture for the family. He an Ann also found time for travel with trips to Europe, Alaska, Texas, Missouri, Florida, Canada, Maine, Nova Scotia and Maui. While doing all this his most favorite time was with his 2 grandchildren Spencer Marlowe Kirk and Marlo Kelsey Kirk.
