Earlene Wright Obituary

Earlene Hettie Wright was born on April 5, 1940, in Preston, Mississippi. Earlene was the beloved daughter of Major and Hettie Wilson, Sr. She carried the warmth of her Southern roots with her as she moved to Syracuse, New York, at the tender age of 18, where she embarked on a journey that would touch many lives.

Earlene was a determined and hardworking woman. Her career began as a nursing aide, exemplifying her compassion for caring for others. It was in Syracuse, New York where our Lord's divine plan brought her together with her soulmate, Charles Wright, Sr. They united in holy matrimony on March 6, 1965, and built a life full of love, laughter, and shared dreams. In due course, they made a loving home in Erie, Pennsylvania.

A devoted member of St. James AME Church, Earlene’s faith was at the center of her being. She served faithfully as a Stewardess, a committed member of the Usher Board, and participated in missionary work, embodying her belief that service to others is serving God. Her impact on her church community was profound and enduring. Earlene worked as a Linen Aid at St. Vincent Healthcare, where she worked diligently until her retirement. Her warmth and kindness were felt by all who had the pleasure of working alongside her. She opened the doors to her home to help people who were getting back on their feet.

Earlene moved to Winston-Salem in 2008. Eventually she became a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she enriched the congregation through her involvement in the Usher Board, Hand Bell Choir, and Cancer Ministry. Her unwavering faith nurtured the spirit of many within her community, shining as a beacon of hope and compassion. Outside of church, she was a member of the Skyland Senior Citizens Club of Winston-Salem

A devoted grandmother, Earlene took immense pride in spoiling her grandchildren with love, laughter, and her delicious home-cooked meals. Earlene had a green thumb and an unmatched love for flowers, frequently dedicating her time to nurturing her beautiful garden.

Earlene Hettie Wright, a cherished matriarch who dedicated her life to faith, family, and community, peacefully passed away on Monday, January 20, 2025, at Trinity Glen in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Earlene is preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband of 25 years; and cherished siblings Willie, Thelma, A.C., Johnie J., Curlee, Arlow, and AL J.

Earlene is survived by her children Gloria (Dennis) Dove and Charles (Sheikima) Wright, Jr.; grandchildren Ciara, Jada, Jasmine, Kendall Dove, Antonio Donte, Derae and Empress Wright; a brother Major (Rebennie) Wilson, Jr.; a sister Oni Mae Davis; sisters in law Sharon Wright and Dorthea Karim;  and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
