Connie Faye Montgomery Reaves began her journey on September 29, 1962, in Spring Branch, South Carolina, born to the late Preston and Mary Montgomery. From the very beginning, Connie carried a light that drew people in—gentle enough to comfort, strong enough to protect, and bright enough to fill any room she entered.
She grew up in a home rooted in love, respect, and resilience, values she carried with her throughout her life. After graduating high school, she continued her education at Denmark Technical College in Denmark, South Carolina, earning her associate degree—an accomplishment she was deeply proud of.
Connie later married the late Kirby Reaves, Sr., and together they built not just a home, but a haven. Their house became a “safe place” for neighborhood children, friends, and anyone who needed warmth, laughter, or a plate of good food. Connie’s door was always open, and her heart even more so.
She lived life with a rhythm all her own. Music was her language, dancing was her joy, and her laugh—contagious, unmistakable—was the soundtrack of countless family memories. She loved people fiercely and fully, and she protected those she loved with a quiet strength that made everyone feel safe.
Connie served faithfully at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Horry County, South Carolina, where she directed the choir and led Sunday School. Her voice carried praise, her leadership carried purpose, and her presence carried love.
She was an exceptional cook, known especially for her seafood—Bream and Spots were her favorites. She taught her children the art of cooking, passing down recipes, techniques, and the famous reminder: “Not too much salt and mustard in the potato salad.” Her kitchen was a place of laughter, lessons, and legacy.
Connie loved to drive, loved to travel, and loved her hair—always styled, always beautiful. But nothing brought her more joy than time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the sparkle in her eyes.
Originally a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, she later embraced the Carolina Panthers with pride and cheered on the Charlotte Hornets with equal enthusiasm. Whether it was football, family gatherings, or a simple ride down the road, Connie lived with passion and heart.
She leaves behind a legacy of wisdom and truth: speak your mind, respect your elders, treat everyone with kindness, expect life’s challenges, but always hope and pray for better days. These lessons will continue to guide those who loved her.
Connie is survived by her children: Kirby Reaves, Jr., Jonathan (Whitney) Reaves, and Fredrick (Karrie) Reaves; her grandchildren Maya Jewel Reaves, Jonathan Reaves Jr., Isaiah Williams, Isaac Reaves, and Mason Reaves; and a host of siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Her life was a story of love, laughter, strength, and generosity. And though she passed away on February 12, 2026, at Trellis Support Care in Winston-Salem, surrounded by her family, the light she carried continues to shine in every life she touched.
