Mr. Arthur Murphy was born November 11, 1946, in Red Springs, NC to Richard Ferguson and Beatrice Murphy. He graduated from The Hoke County School System.
After graduating from high school, “Art” as he was affectionately known as, enlisted into the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in 1975 and began his career in doing various jobs. His last position was a Water Treatment Inspector for the City of Winston-Salem.
After retiring from the City of Winston Salem, “Art” enjoyed his time being around his family and friends. He loved to go fishing and watching his favorite, which was the UNC Basketball and Football Teams, GO TAR HEELS! He was an avid Spades and Bidwiz card player with his friends Waymond McNeil, Fred Murry, and Bernard Smith. “Art” found so much joy in spending time with his family but most of all, his grand and great-grandchildren.
On the early morning of Tuesday, September 6, 2023, Arthur Murphy departed this life surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father who reared him, Norman Murphy; and brother, Alton Ferguson.
Arthur leaves to cherish loving and dear memories to his wife, Simmeral Reid-Murphy; children, Arthur (Regina) Treadwell, Latricia Conner, William (Gwendolyn) Conner, Jr., Stefonz Conner, JaBre’ (DeShae’) Murphy, Matthew Allen Murphy; grandchildren, Kayla (Carlos) Fletcher, Jaxon, Naquan, Jamyia, Zion, Arthur, Zavion Conner, Taylor Hovis, Joelle (Cooper) Russ, Tyler Goodwin, Shae’lyn Murphy, Yasmer, Tony, and Joselle Humphries; great-grandchildren, Sylas Shelly, Ellis Russ, Diego & Carson Fletcher, Haylee & Jesarrah Shelly; sisters, Betty Hocker, Ann Leggett, Evelyn Scurlock, Mary, Norma Murphy, devoted sister- Patricia (Gene) Loftin, Lula Johnson, Mildred Pittman, Janet, Regina, Permela Ferguson and Valerie Ferguson; brothers, Albert Murphy, Richard, Keith, and Clark Ferguson; aunts Sallie McCormick, Sadie Winston, Hattie Kills; uncle, James Ferguson; sisters-in-law, Sarah, Claretta, and Doris Reid; brother-in-law, Ronzo (Jasmine) Reid; a devoted niece, Thomasina Reid; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
